Title of Study: An investigation into the impact of emotional intelligence in effective project management and its value to the next generation of project managers
We are inviting you to take part in a research study. Before you decide, it is important that you know why we are doing the study and what is involved. Please read the following information carefully.
What is the purpose of the study?
The main aim of this research project is to investigate emotional intelligence in regard to its relation to successful project management and its value as a list of key competencies to upcoming project managers. The project aims to understand which competencies of emotional intelligence are most linked to successful project management and what future project managers value when it comes to emotional intelligence practices and ideals. This study is being conducted at the University of Lincoln as part of a MSc Dissertation research project.
Do I have to take part?
Participation is completely voluntary. You should only take part if you want to and choosing not to take part will not disadvantage you in anyway.
What will I be asked to do?
If you are interested in participating in this study, you will be asked to sign a consent form. No personal data is held, and all answers are given completely anonymously.
You will have as much time as needed to answer a series of questions surrounding ideas of emotional intelligence involving open and closed questions. It is estimated this questionnaire will take 10 minutes to complete.
This study is only collecting data over a 1-month period and once analysed and reported in the resulting dissertation, all data will be deleted, and a short summary of the results will be provided on the University of Lincoln Student Blog to let you know.
You will also be asked to complete a 1 question feedback box on how you found the questions and the overall experience.
Will I be paid expenses for taking part?
You will not be paid an inconvenience allowance to participate in the study.
What are the possible risks of taking part?
Due to the nature of emotional intelligence surrounding the participates emotions as well as their understanding of others emotions, it is a possibility that participates could be distressed by the nature of the questions. Great care has been taken in this case to make sure the questions will not cause harm and instead be interesting and positive in nature.
Will anyone know I have taken part?
The information we collect will be handled in confidence. No one will know you have taken part, as your responses are anonymous.
Where will my data be stored?
The data obtained from the study will be stored securely on the university OneDrive in password protected files. Only the researcher/researchers will have access to it.
What will happen if I don’t want to carry on with the study?
As you have completed the study anonymously it will not be possible to remove the data provided, as I will not be able to identify you in any way.
What will happen to the results of the research study?
The dissertation will be posted onto the dissertation online library kept by the University of Lincoln, this is the only place the full results will be posted to read.
Who is organising and funding the research?
No organisation is funding the research, guidance is being provided by a supervisor from the University of Lincoln to guide a student through their research.
Who has reviewed the study?
All research conducted by the University of Lincoln is looked at by an independent group of people, called a Research Ethics Committee, to protect your interests. This study has been reviewed and given favourable opinion by a University of Lincoln Research Ethics Committee 15525.
What if there is a problem?
It is very unlikely that this study would cause you any harm. If you have a concern or a complaint about any aspect of this study, you should ask to speak to the researchers who will do their best to answer your questions.  The researchers contact details are given at the end of this information sheet.
If you remain unhappy and wish to complain formally, you can make a formal complaint through the University complaints procedure or by contacting ethics@lincoln.ac.uk.
