Title of Study: Braille pop-it: A multisensory game to develop braille literacy skills in visually impaired and blind children and adults
We are inviting you to take part in a research study. Before you decide, it is important that you know why we are doing the study and what is involved. Please read the following information carefully.
What is the purpose of the study? In this project we aim to create accessible child-friendly audio-tactile Braille-reading games for visually impaired and blind children which aim to improve and support learning to read Braille. We will create these games together with children, parents and teachers at Camsight charity (Cambridge), InFocus (Exeter) and St. Vincent’s school (Liverpool) ,Lincoln Blind society (Lincoln) to increase the technology landscape of learning braille.
We will use a braille “pop-it” configuration (see Figure below of the original device) which allows children to press the corresponding braille dots followed by audio-tactile feedback. The braille button box consists of 6 different buttons, there is a separate button box, which consists of the “start” and the “cancel” button and a microcontroller (Arduino Mega).
